"Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point."
CS Lewis
Courage is one of the most misunderstood words in human life. It conjures up visions of warriors fighting one time battles against huge foes that will instantly define them for the foreseeable future.
The truth is that more often, the attribute of courage is exhibited quietly, against foes that are far less dramatic, but are every bit as formidable. Quiet conquests over those habits, daily disciplines, or incremental obstacles require flexing all of our virtue muscles and not in just one instant reaction to a foe. Courage requires a disciplined mind to overcome the desire to not perform and execute, but flee.
Each courageous step of progress builds on the last. Each is a small but vital victory. And these victories, mostly unseen to others, make up a far higher percentage of our development than we likely ever imagined when we came to this earth.
